This years summer holiday is booked and I have a couple of weeks in June before the kids are on their school holidays in Europe. My flight departs London Heathrow on the 16th of June and lands in Basel airport which happens to be in France, a few KMs down the road from Basel. The plan is to work from home on Friday, switch the computer off, then take a 30 minute ride to the airport before jumping on the 18:35 flight. I'll arrive at 21:10 local time and unpackage my board, trailer and camping gear in the arrivals hall before catching the last of the light trying to find the very cheap F1 hotel next to the airport. This will be my last night in a bed for a couple of weeks until I arrive at the Hook of Holland where my ferry home awaits. On Saturday morning, I'll need to skate in the wrong direction so that I can say that I put a foot on Swiss territory. Then, I'll find the Rhine river and start my two week 'cruise' north towards Spaarndam in the Netherlands where the Dutch Ultraskate takes place on July 1st. My set up will be same as last year. A Rayne Deelite Demonseed (slightly deelamed from all the wet weather days) with 75a 85mm Seismic Speedvends (slightly chunked) towing a trailer made from a Rolls Rolls Sportster loaded with my camping gear, clothes, food and water. Not too much shopping to do in preparation this year. Notable enhancements this year are 1) a new tent with better ventilation 2) no map 3) less reliance on campsites (at least in Germany) so that I can skate further and not worry about having to reach a destination by late afternoon.
